Old Hickory Grill in Burtonsville

Old Hickory is the original restaurant of this mini chain. (I know there is one more in VA.)

We've been going there off and on for years, and have always enjoyed it. It has a New Orleans touch, Cajun food is featured. Love the oyster po-boy.

I think they make the best steak salad in the area. I especially like the horseradish sauce that you can get with it. They make good sandwiches and I love the skinny shoestring fries that they serve. The roast chicken is wonderful, you can get a very good BBQ meatloaf, and they also feature some huge racks of ribs. I a

However, always take a look at the specials on the blackboard. Yesterday I had the soft-shell crabs and they were some of the best I've had in years. Two crabs, perfectly fried, with a garlic butter sauce on top that was wonderful. Service is always friendly and efficient.

The place has a bar that is always playing whatever game is on. There are several TVs so there are several games going at once. The kitchen is open to the dining room so you can watch the guys prepare the food. Sometimes the place can get noisy, but I've never had it be so bad that I wanted to leave.

  1. I like OHG too. One thing to keep in mind -- the portions are huge. Great for sharing or lunch the next day.

    1. Thanks for the recs. My two favorite items are the cajun egg rolls and the fried oysters. Will have to check out the steak salad next time.

      1. OHG chicken tastes great and is a great buy as well. My wife loves its mashed potatoes.

Yep. Those red skin mashed potatos are really good.

We've been going there for years, when I saw the subject of this thread I panicked thinking they'd closed. I, too, love their fried oysters and mashed potatoes. We both love the little biscuits you get when you first arrive. If you go at lunchtime on the weekend, it's not super crowded or noisy. And we've never been disappointed in the food.

Ah yes, the biscuits. Always ask for more just before you finish eating so you have some to take home.

        2. Is this related to the steakhouse in National Harbor?

Not at all. There is also a location in Loehmann's Plaza in Falls Church on Rte 50.

Actually, the Falls Church location is not associated with Burtonsville anymore. They once were, but there was a split. Both locations have very similar menus, though.
