One Night Near Union Square and some Lunch

Need suggestions for dinner. Staying at Hilton for biz and would prefer to walk but short cab ride OK, too. Great seafood or classic Californian/New American is preferred. Not on a budget but not looking for French Laundry prices either. Also, some ideas for lunch near the hotel as well. When this group travels we look for local flavor (shellfish/oysters, pizza, Chinese, whatever) so that's a must. Thanks in advance!

  1. Try Sultan right across the street from the Hilton's O'Farrell Street entrance (the main entrance where the lobby is). $11 or 12 for the lunch buffet, and if you're able to get there before 12 the food will be piping hot and absolutely delicious. There are usually at least 8 things to eat, including great tandoori chicken and a sambar.

For dinner your group could wander over to Belden Alley and eat at any of the al fresco European restaurants in the alley, or at Sam's Grill for some real old syle San Francisco flavor. A little closer is Irish Bank. Not great food, but solid pub fare and a fun place for beer guzzlers.

Zuni, one of the most classic California cuisine spots, is a short cab ride away or a short ride down Market street on any of the buses.
