This is for a group of lawyers at my firm. The choice are:

Eight Wine Bar
Harbord Room
Sidecar

Any thoughts?

Thank you Chowhounders!

I haven't been to eight WB, so I can't comment on that.

Harbord Room is a very good restaurant, but only has about 25 seats and so reservations are very difficult to come by. I would definitely choose there if I had the option.

Sidecar was ok for a relatively cheap night out. We went for the prix-fixe special. Cocktails were very good. Apps were weak (ceasar salad and a soup). My wife had the P/F steak and frites and was very happy with it (again great for the price). My main course was not very memorable. Wife liked her dessert but I didn't care for mine. Service was actually very good. We left feeling that we got good value, but we have not been back.

Definitely Sidecar - great atmosphere, good food and fantastic cocktails.

I've got to tell you, my prix-fixe meal at Sidecar reminded me of banquet hall wedding food--low-grade hunk of chicken, undressed broccoli and greasy, rock-hard fried potatoes. Good drinks, busy place. Wouldn't go back, for sure.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it 'banquet hall wedding food' but I was pretty unhappy with my (non-prix fixe) food when I went recently. Fish and duck were decent but the risotto was terrible - cold, and undercooked.

Kickass mojito was delicious though and the place has a nice vibe for drinks.

For a group of lawyers Sidecar may risk seeming downmarket. Harbord might mitigate that with a bit more hip-ness, but Eight has a more traditionally expense account vibe (although I don't think the food is great). Then again maybe they're not those kind of lawyers, but I'm just saying....
