Lunch at Artisanal Brasserie in Bellevue report

Artisanal Brasserie in the Bravern Bellevue.
We had lunch there on Tuesday. They were in the “soft opening” phase and were offering 20% while they worked out the kinks. Service was slowish. Our server seemed experienced but everyone helping her, not so much. Chairs were wobbly wedding rental style and we were told several times that their real chairs are “on the boat”.

We each got the three course prixe fixe lunch for $21 or so. Choice of starter, main, and dessert. Wife got a mesclun salad which was a good sized bowl of greens with a light dressing. I got beet salad which had greens, beets, and some kind of goat cheese. Both were rather generous portions. A few slices of a good crusty bread was served too and then taken away for some reason when they cleared our salad plates. There was a fairly long wait for our mains. Wife had Moules Frites and I had the petite hanger steak frites. The fries were excellent. Easily in the top 5 of fries I’ve ever had. Wife said her mussels were very good. The hanger steak was definitely petite. Perfectly cooked with some kind of reduction and served with a small pile of watercress. It was very good if a bit salty.

There was a long wait until dessert. Wife had the chocolate mousse which she enjoyed. I had a selection of ice creams. Caramel, peanut butter, and olive oil. The olive oil was interesting and in a good way. It really did taste of fruity extra virgin olive oil. The other two were good as well.

They have a very extensive wine by the glass selection. Close to a hundred I believe. They offer large and small pours as well. I’m not sure how, but even with the 20% off, we managed to spend $80 on lunch not including tip. Wife had two glasses of something bubbly and I had a glass of pinot gris.

We saw the owner/chef guy lurking about with a pissed off look on his face.

We’ll definitely be back once they work out the opening kinks and the novelty of the Bravern wear off. It was kind of creepy how many “ladies who lunch” were out and about. The restaurant was about about 40% full. I think there was a total of about 6 male diners including myself. The rest were all women of a certain age.

  1. The NYC version is known for their extensive selection of cheeses, do they do that here too? Or have they gone for a different vibe?

      They offer a charcuterie and/or a cheese plate on the menu. The menus are online at http://www.artisanalwa.com
      The charcuterie has a lot of appeal to me but I think I'd wait awhile before attempting to tax the servers with ordering something like that.
      They also offer fondu.

        They do have a cheese menu, as well. It is not yet online, but very, very extensive.
