Love love love room service and I find that the kids menu has sometimes, not always way more appealing things and its so much cheaper too...just had the chicken nuggets breaded in a macadamia crust with a plum dipping sauce with mac n' cheese and a bowl of ice cream with hot fudge for around $8..it was frigging delicious.

So with the chicken nuggets, a turkey sandwich, bowl of chicken noodle soup, 2 ice cream sundaes..total for about $25+ vs. $150 for the plain seared ahi for two with a plain salad and no ice cream sundaes.
The Wynn Las Vegas has a huge kids Angus cheeseburger with fries for $8 on a brioche bun..vs. the adult menu burger for $25+..it is by far one of the best burgers ever..

I haven't seen any verbage that states you have to be 'under 12' to order, yet..it saves a ton of money after they do there delivery charge, gratuity charge..did have my name spelled out in some tomato soup with creme fraiche once.

love tater tots but most kids menus are much more evolved than they used to be..and they didn't have them at the Grand Hyatt Kauai and after snorkeling all day, I was craving them..extra crispy with lots of ketchup..

I have yet encountered a hotel room service that could not provide tater tots on demand (regardless of what the menu says -- either on the kids side, or adult side).

The Four Seasons in Mexico City happily made me tater tots the entire week I was there -- and it was not an item on the menu at all. I suspected they were sourcing it from a local grocer ... And, I'm pretty sure by mid-week they realized there was nary a "kid" in our room.

Sounds like a smart solution to me if the establishment doesn't state a policy against it. What bugs me is the outrageous portion sizes in some places (not all, of course, but many hotels and some restaurants today). I'm not exactly a dainty eater, but even I end up puttting half of it out in the hallway on the cart for the hotel staff to dispose of for me. That's a sin, thinking of all the hungry people in the world. I wish some of these places would cut the portions in half, and then they could cut the prices, too. :-) Good for you for beating the system.

Unfortunately, at the types of hotels we're discussing (Four Seasons, Wynn) the labor is probably much more expensive than the raw food. If they slashed the portions in half, the price would probably barely go down and they're get complains from people who are bigger eaters than you are about the portions being too small. Vegas, especially, is all about overindulgence, right?

slight change in topic, but I recently spent two nights at the Tuolumne Lodge in Yosemite, where the menu had a section that was listed as "Light bites/kids menu" with the subheading "For Kids from Four to Ninety-Four". The burger was $4 less (and presumably smaller) than on the regular menu (though I didn't notice if they had tater tots :-))

I did wonder if that meant you got your meal free if you were under four or over ninety-four.... :-)

We often stay at Fairmont properties and every time we order items from the kids menu they ask us the ages of our children. I am not sure if they are making sure we aren't ordering more kids meals than the two we have or are just trying to make the service seem more personal. Their kid's meal portions are big enough for adults though we've never ordered kid's meals for ourselves. (Though we often share one adult entree!)

I have seen verbage to the effect that the kids menu is for kids under 12, or something to that effect. My daughter used to travel for dance competitions on weekends, and her favorite part of the whole event was room service breakfast. I am not even a coffee drinker, so our order was usually just the kids french toast, juice and chocolate milk, for about $10. Couldn't beat it, and it was always a very generous portion, with a couple bites leftover for me. The kids menu is definitely a bargain, but I haven't ordered off of it for myself.

Excellent idea. I always hate to see so much food go to waste when portions are too large to finish and you can't keep them for later because there's nowhere to heat them up if the room doesn't have a kitchenette.

Sometimes I work room service at the resort I work at and often times parents order room service for their children, especially if they are leaving them with a babysitter. So I would never question someone only ordering off the kids menu. If we wanted to be real strict, we get ever kids name and age at check in, so we could always check if there were in fact kids in the room, but who really cares? We are just happy for your business!
