Eva Restaurant on Beverly Blvd
Went to Mark Gold's new restaurant called Eva Restaurant where the old Hatfield's Restaurant used to be. It has been opened only for about 2 weeks and we had a dinner party for 6 people to celebrate a birthday. The menu is still being developed and fairly small with about 8 starters and 8 entrees. Everything is in small plates and portion, nothing above $20. The dishes that really shined were the Hokaido Scallops, Heirloom tomatoes, Ravioli with burrata and poached beef tenderloin (actually cooked sous vide). They do not have a liquor license so you can bring your own wine with a $12 corkage. We brought a 2000 Peter Michael and a 1999 Justin Isosceles. The service needs a lot of improvement, hopefully they get there soon!
6 people and the bill came to $309.50 before tip. Pretty damn good!
Mark told us that Sunday night dinner was served family style for $35 for adult (including wine) and $25 for children. Going to have try this one of these Sundays.

This establishment will not be in business long enough for me to write my review. Sadly, another LA minimalist style restaurant posing as a NYC want to be. You know the type: white walls, white table clothes, wood chairs and a candle followed by 8 bites of unimpressive food served by inexperienced and uninterested waiters for $100.
With a reservation, it took 25 minutes to flag down a waiter (not ours) to beg for a drink order to be taken. The service stayed true to this form all night long. The starter salad was 5 pieces of very tough romaine leaves with a lackluster green goddess dressing. My swordfish was completely raw in the middle. I sent it back and it came back 1/2 the size it was before, so I told them to keep it. No apologies given by the waitress who seemed to have no interest in selling us food or wine the entire night. Yes, the tables are crammed together, but the most annoying part is that the galley-like hallway that we were seated in has a floor that seemed to be made of ply wood-- every time a waiter walked across it, it felt like our table might fall through it! Unnerving and annoying, to say the least. Especially without cocktails.

Probably the worst most embarrassing experience of my life. First the good: the food and wine were excellent. Now the bad: the service and attitude were horrific. We dined on Sunday night when they have a 5 course prix fix menu that includes wine. Our server was friendly, but not at all knowledgeable about the menu. We asked what was on the menu. He told us that we would start with a chopped salad; it was a Cesar. The service was awfull. After we asked for wine 3 times to no avail, I got up, walked over to the hostess and told her we had asked for wine repeatedly. The hostess stand is adjacent to the bar. She took me over to the bar, handed me a bottle and told me to help myself. The next time we asked for wine, again it never arrived. I walked over to the bar and picked up a bottle. This time the bartender was there and took the bottle over to our table and served us. We asked our waiter to give us time before the next course. Nonetheless, it showed up and the runner was gone before we could say we were not ready for it. Again we asked for wine and it never arrived. Once again I had to walk over to the bar and help myself. Our check then appeared even though we had not been served the full meal. The executive chef came and essentially advised me that we were not welcome as we had been helping ourselves to wine. I advised him of the situation which turned into an argument over whether the hostess had actually told us to help ourselves to wine.Do they really think I want to serve myself? The end result was that we were so uncomfortable that we left without being served our entire meal. They had no problem charging us for the full dinner. No one even bothered to suggest that perhaps we should not be charged in full for such a bad experience. I have never had to argue with the chef or manager of a restaurant and have him essentially suggest that I was lieng. The experience was awfull and I would never return.

Oof, sorry for your terrible experience. I stopped by early yesterday as well, hoping to try the Sunday dinner but was prevented from entering the premises as there was a large party inside. We were told they "weren't really taking anymore" people, didn't give any indication of how much longer that would be or if they had rented out the restaurant for the whole night or something. Anyway, didn't particularly love the attitude, so didn't ask any questions and had an awesome pizza dinner at Vito's. I'm actually quite glad it worked out this way if my dinner was going to turn out anything like neosbuddy...

wow, that is shocking. My experience was the complete opposite, though to be fair, we went on a regular night. Both food & service were great. Been meaning to write a review but been so dang busy lately... anyway, sorry you had such an awful experience - sounds like the sunday night dinners are too popular for their own good.

I was there for Sunday Supper last night too...and while the service wasn't stellar, I just attributed that to them being very busy. We had to wait awhile for our drink order and our wine... BUT i would DEFINITELY go back -- the food was delicious, the environment was friendly, and the meal was a great value. I think that probably you can't go into a Sunday Supper situation expecting the kind of attention that you would get on a normal night of dining... and that the caliber of the food and wine for only $35 far surpassed any feeling of getting slighted by our waiter. I'd highly recommend EVA restaurant, but to try to go in without expectations of superb service.
