Last minute Father's 64th bday, downtown, NYT 3-star level

anywhere downtown, west village/tribeca/east village wherever.
I've already taken him to Blue Hill, Annisa, Indochine, Fleur de sel (RIP), Gotham Bar and Grill.

Not too stuffy preferably. I was eyeing Corton as one possibility, maybe Wallse? Somewhere with a great fish dishes is preferable, since he is on a diet. 1-mich star level, or 3 star NY times level, or whatever, just that vibe.

P.S. EMP is one of the restaurants on my list, if a reservation is possible. It is the only exception out the highest end restaurants. otherwise, the tier below like the restaurants mentioned above.

Try Gramercy Tavern, Babbo, Esca (fish is the best)

Don't know about Esca (which, btw, is not downtown), but there's little doubt that neither Gramercy Tavern nor Babbo would be able to accommodate a party of 8 for *tonight*! In any case, the o.p. posted at 11:30 a.m., that they are going to Hearth.

I've actually gotten into both same-day. You can often luck out with a cancellation by calling on the same day you want to eat.

Babbo's largest table fits 6.

Gramercy Tavern has a 1 round table that fits 8 (I know this only because we tried to plan a work function there).

Thanks a lot everyone for the feedback. The input was helpful as always. Several years ago I went to Hearth regularly, so I'll be looking forward to the visit, perhaps write a brief report if up for it. The vibe/decor suits him best for this round. Thank you!

I highly recommend Bouley. I celebrated my birthday at Bouley last month, and it was wonderful!

Eleven Madison Park is closed on Sundays, BTW, as is Corton.

Going through Open Table if you are willing to eat early you could do:

Hearth

Tabla

It's going to be pretty difficult to get a 3 star NYT restaurant on a Sunday for such a large party on such short notice, so I would set expectations accordingly.

Well, im not sure what to recommend based on this 1 Michelin star requirement. I doubt if Landmarc has a star, if they do then Michelin has lowered their criteria.
I would recommend the Acqua Grill for fish, possibly Lure. Or Bouley's new restaurant. Otherwise 15 East for some sushi. Another choice might be Chanterelle.

15 East is closed on Sunday, as is its older wonderful sibling, Tocqueville.

Chanterelle is closed for renovations until sometime in October.

Tabla's formal dining room is closed on Sunday. The more casual Bread Bar is open.
