I've been looking all over for fresh porcini mushrooms and matsutake mushrooms in toronto. Any ideas?
i just came back with fresh matsutake from evergreen brickworks market. it's closed now, but i think forbes wild food (i think that's the name) sells at other markets/stores as well.
Last time I was at McEwan, they had a good selection of mushrooms.
Not sure what types they have now, but T&T has a lovely selection of hard to find mushrooms.
The only place that I have ever found Porcini (my favorite) in Toronto is at mcewan, but they don't always have them.
The matsutake were $26 per pound from Forbes at the Brickworks. Forbes appear at many of the farmer's markets as well. Porcini can also be found at Harvest Wagon from time to time.
Dried cepes are the same as Porcini, and will work in many recipes.
the taste of fresh and dried is worlds apart. I will have to call up forbes then. Thanks everyone
