Lunch near Paramus

We're looking for a place to take a group of family and friends (up to 20) for lunch or brunch at about noon on a Sunday. Moderately priced, decent food, of course. Need a place where we can have a semi-private or private area, we don't want to be at one long table in a busy dining room. Figure near Paramus Park Mall or 5 mile radius. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

  1. All of Bergen County is closed on Sundays, throwback to the old Blue Laws ...

Is that true for restaurants, or just retailers?

      1. re: NWalker

That's just a ridiculous and untrue statement. Restaurants in Bergen County are not closed on Sunday.

        1. re: NWalker

All Bergen County restaurants are not closed on fact most are probably open for dinner....lunch though, maybe not so much.

Only the shopping malls and most retail stores are closed on Sundays....the restaurants located in the shopping malls, i.e., Garden State Plaza and Riverside Square Mall are all open.

The only place I would recommend for a Sunday meal is Dinallo's in River Edge just off Route 4 East. They have a private room upstairs.

wow, sorry ... every time i have been in the Paramus area on a sunday (and I am there at least once a month) I have not been able to find a place that was open other than the diners. I am ususally there around lunch time so maybe that is part of the problem. I have always been told to not bother as nothing is open, I apologize for my ridiculous answer ...

A MANO IN RIDGEWOOD has an upstairs room
dim sum dynasty which has dim sum carts also has a private room
both are great choices and afre close
restaurants are open on sunday every sunday

If you provide some interests and parameters for your dining pleasures, maybe we can recommend some places for you to enjoy......

          2. Bacari Grill or Biagio's should be able to take care of your party.

How about Napa Valley Grille? Its a nice place with a nice menu, they may even have brunch. They are open in Garden State Plaza 7 days a week. Try the Riverside MAll restaurants too, some like Maggianos, never been, can accomadate your crowd.

            2. I love The Daily Treat in Ridgewood.

The Daily Treat is more of a diner, if that's a consideration.

                1. re: tommy

the daily treat is mediocre diner type food and overpriced
A mano for pizza and Italian much much better
Dim Sum Dynasty for chinese also wonderful
                  all in ridgewood

              2. While just about all restaurants in Bergen are open on Sundays (Contrary to what was announced above) they serve a BRUNCH-type deal rather than a lunch. Although perhaps for a large private group they will accommodate you otherwise.

As far as Dinallo's being the ONLY place, (IMHO it's super-ordinary) you also have Oceanos/Fair Lawn, Chakra/Paramus, Village Green, 28 Oak, Fratelli's, Radicchio, all in Ridgewood. Mediterraneo/Ridgewood is nice too, but I don't know if they can accommodate a large group...

                  FYI ........

                  * Oceanos doesn't open until 1:00 PM on Sundays

Radicchio, Bazzini 28 Oak, Village Green and Chakra all do not offer lunch or Brunch on Sundays. Radicchio and Village Green do not open until 5:00 PM and both 28 Oak and Chakra are closed.

Fratelli's and Mediterraneo are open on Sundays...but Mediterraneo only has 30 seats total. If you want Semi-Private/Private dining, you need to guarantee 20 seats and probably a special menu.

                2. If you stay on the main highways, Routes 4 and 17, you are likely to find mostly diners and chain restaurants. Napa Valley Grille in Garden State Plaza is a good choice, as they do have a separate party room away from the main dining room.

Other options at Garden State Plaza are Joe's American Bar and Grille, Paparazzi, Legal Seafood and GrandLuxe Cafe (Part of Cheesecake Factory Chain).

At Riverside Square there are several possibilities including a McCormick and Smick's Seafood, Cheesecake Factory, Maggiano's, Rosa Mexicano, Houston's and Morton's Steakhouse.

Away from the highway there are many options. Bacari Grille may not be open because they do private parties on weekend days. Ridgewood has Baumgart's Chinese/Ice Cream, Marcello's and/or The Stable, and Natalie's.

Near Paramus Park, there is a Bonefish Grille that might work.

There are many other places in the area, are you thinking about a specific type of food?
