I need help finding a place for lunch close to or on Lake Merritt that is open on Monday. Thanks

  1. Cindy Sep 18, 2009 12:21 PM

    How close? Walking or driving?

    1. Robert Lauriston Sep 18, 2009 12:25 PM

My favorite lunch places in the area are Jong Ga (Korean), Shanghai, and Spices!3 (Sichuan). If you're driving, Champa Garden, Chai Thai, and Green Papaya are just a few minutes away. I think they're all open Monday.

There's also the new Lake Chalet, but reports haven't been too enthusiastic.

it also depends what you mean by close to Lake Merritt, there are places that are close to either side of the Lake, but it would take a long time to walk from one to the other.

I believe Sidebar on Grand Ave. is open for lunch on Mondays. Good burgers, decent mussels and fries, etc.

The food at Quinn's Lighthouse can be pretty bad, and it smells kind of bad inside. If the deck hasn't reopened, I wouldn't go there.

Thank you so much everyone, I will report back. I am helping a friend move and paint that day, so I need to have a tasty, recommended lunch to look forward to as a reward. Plus I have forwarded these suggestions to my friend who will be new to the neighborhood.

We ended up at Los Cantaros, it made the most sense with our long list of things to do and paint spattered clothes. Both ordered the Veracruz salad, which has a generous portion of romaine, perfectly grilled prawns and tasty dressing. They had a selection of 7 different agua frescas to choose from. I would definitely go back. The only negative was blaring music.

The Los Cantaros where I dined is at 336 Grand Ave in Oakland.
I should mention the salad also has avocado, radishes and shredded jack cheese.
Can't attend the Chowhound picnic, I live across the street from GGPark and my place is headquarters for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Regret I cannot have my cake and eat it to. I hope this isn't the last year and I can attend in '10.
