L20 or Blackbird for birthday dinner?
As I was not able to get a reservation at Tru this coming monday, I've narrowed my options down to L20 and Blackbird. I'm completely struck with indecision, and was hoping some advice/comments from chowhounders would help me out. I've been to Blackbird for lunch, but I've heard it can get really crowded at dinner. L20 seems like a more upscale, special occasion place.
Thanks for your help.

Definitely L2O, it is superior to Blackbird on food, service, ambiance. And for what its worth from my recent experiences with Tru, I would go to L2O over Tru anyway.

If you are celebrating, choose L2O. Since this is Plan B to Tru, i assume you are already thinking of spending the kind of money at these places. L2O is a very serene space, and the food is both very imaginative, and minimalist zen. Blackbird is great for a more fun and lively night. As you have been there, you know how small the space is, and at night, there is a frenetic, loud energy.
