Who knew Alpine Village has a live band for lunch? It’s not the Octoberfest event, as that’s held in the big tent out back. This is in the regular restaurant for a normal weekday lunch. It’s a 10-piece band with a whole horn section, drums, etc. and they go through old German standards.

They had about 30 tables full of diners, mostly all over 50 years old. And several of the diners got up to waltz after lunch.

The food’s okay, nothing to crow about. They do a tasty weinerschnitzel, but I wish they’d include pickled cabbage with it instead of steamed veggies. The smoked pork shank was fine, but looked and tasted like a thick slice of ham.

This is a hoot, and what a surprise.

If you are going to battle that horrid parking lot, fighting with the swap meet folks, I think the better value is to buy your lunch fixings in the Market and eat at the tables outside. The single serving baguette for $1 is really nice, a variety of cold cuts, maybe some of the potato salad or kraut, plus a jar of an interesting mustard. Bring some paper plates, napkins and utensils with you. I see plenty of folks also enjoying a beer they purchased inside out on the patio. The whole crowd inside the resto is a world unto itself-

WOW, you sure aren't kidding on the inside crowd at the resto!! Last year, after my Grandmother had passed, I was craving Alpine Village. So taking my hubby, Aunt and Mom on a Friday night we encountered what had to be the "stuck in the 70's" elderly singles crowd. My Mom got more passes at her that night by men in their late 70's (and wearing the same leisure suit they wore then) and the elderly women trolling the bar waiting for one of those Gents to buy her a drink made for dinner entertainment beyond compare!

I too, love eating from the Alpine Village market, but that Contiental resto holds great memories for me. I still think they do a great weinerschnitzel. (even with that frozen pea/carrot side!) The place is what you want to make of it.
