Search for marzipan

Hi all,
I'm baking my sister's wedding cake and the recipe calls for marzipan. I can get it where I live (the Netherlands), but I don't much fancy taking a big bag of white stuff through airport customs, so does anyone know a place in or around DC to get marzipan? For clarification: marzipan is made from ground almonds and lots of confectioner's sugar. Thanks for your help!

  1. I know Hiedelberg Pasrty Shop in Arlington, VA makes marzipan cakes so you might contact them and see who they order it from or if you could buy it from them?

    1. any grocery store has marzipan, or almond paste to make your own.

maybe heidelberg would let you buy in bulk from them, and it would probably be cheaper than the grocery store. email them and ask. (see the box on the right). they're nice folks -- and make a fine cake, may i add!

      1. Rodman's near the Friendship Heights station has Odense marzipan in a tube. This is high quality for baking. Many grocery stores carry it as well in their baking ingredients isle

        1. How much do you need? Harris Teeter sells the tubes.

          1. As alkapal said, you can get it in any grocery store but they're in small tubes, more for baking, because they're fairly expensive. I can't imagine what it would cost to buy enough to make frosting for a wedding cake. Even if you made it yourself from almost paste, it would be pricey. If I were going to do that much, I'd look for mail order.
