Portland and Mcminville help
Headed out for a couple days in Portland and a couple days in Mcminville. I would like to head to the coast from Portland for a lunch or some seafood and would love rec's on which town to hit. Also looking for restaurants that serve up local ingredients and flavor, and any wineries that are off the radar, but worth a visit.
I went to school in McMinnville from 2000-2004 and put some effort into finding something more interesting to eat than fast food.
There's a decent Spanish restaurant on 3rd between Baker and Cowl's called La Rambla. The menu isn't terribly novel, but they do a good job with the standards. Other high-end places include Nick's (I've not been there), Bistro Maison (ditto) and Kame (okay, but not as good as what you could find in, say, Beaverton).
My favorite place to get lunch from my college days that's still around is The Sage. It's inside the 1893 Shops building on the corner of 3rd & Davis. Get a sandwich with their great wheat bread and a cup of the cream of broccoli soup.
Don't bother eating at the Hotel Oregon, but do check out the rooftop bar. If you want to eat pub food, the Golden Valley Brewpub is your best bet.
The Crescent Cafe's brunch is highly regarded, but I haven't been there. I have, however, been to the Wildwood Cafe, which is whimsical (mismatched mugs, things hanging from the ceiling), tasty, and likely to be full of hungover college students on a weekend morning.
If you're into that sort of thing, McMinnville has an Arctic Circle. Muchas Gracias is popular because it's open 24 hours, not because it's any good. Although McMinnville has a lot of Mexican restaurants, they tend to be short-lived and I have no idea which one is worth visiting at this moment.
