My wife and I will be in Rome for one week next month. This will be my wife's first time ever in Rome and , in my case, not in the last 30 plus years.
We enjoy small, relatively inexpensive restaurants of the slow food, Chowhound variety.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
october is a wonderful month to be in rome. kids are back in school/parents are back to work. the cacophony is reduced by an order of magnitude.
wandering the area where your hotel/apartment is makes sense to me. you'll probably figure out a place or two that appeals to you. specialty places like high-end wine bars and fancy restaurants require some measure of assistance but i didn't sense that from your initial post.
trust your instincts as you walk around and don't rely too much on what others have to say. rome is an endless series of neighborhoods with decent food that, on any given night, can be memorable. cooking at home, if you have an apartment, is always an option since produce can be of a very high order.
