Blue Water Cafe

I'm going to Vancouver at the end of the month. I've already made my reservation to the Blue Water Cafe. The menu seems to be very nice (so many choices). What would you choose?

Any recommendations (downtown) for lunch (weekdays) would also be appreciated.

  1. We had a memorable meal at Blue Water a few months ago. My suggestion? Ask to speak with Chef Frank Pabst (very personable) and put yourselves in his capable and talented hands. We just asked him to send us food. Good chefs love that.

    Gotta say I'm not sure why they chose to call it a "Cafe". It's a full-on restaurant in every sense.

      Thanks for the advice. I did what you've suggested. I've asked Chef Pabst to send food to the table (plus wine pairing). Amazing! I had a wonderful time. This place is A++ (service and food).

      Next time I'm in Vancouver, I will go back for sure.

        I was there on Oct 3 (been away from computer since) and did the same thing (didn't actually talk to chef, just server). It worked out well, though not spectacular. I think a couple wine pairings were a bit off, and courses 4 and 5 (of 6) were sablefish and halibut. I know they aren't the same, but both are white fish soI would have preferred the latter to be something different: tuna, salmon, arctic char...

    2. I just ate there last week but I kept myself to the raw bar but here's a link to my review of what I ate. Hope it helps. I love the place, the food is always good.

      1. For me, it would be Raw Bar centric - sit at the bar and order sushi and augment with various appetizers ("First Plates" on their menu ).

        For lunch - Medina, Scuie (there is a recent thread that describes the breaskfast here), Market, Japadog, Kirin.

          I just noticed there is now a Scuie in Yaletown... anyone been?

            I go there every week with my daughter and it's really good but the downtown one is better because the owner Alex works at that one and he makes better pizza than the guys in yaletown.
