We're headed back to St. Lucia this year (in part because the airfare is cheap, ie $50+ miles, the people are great, the food is incredible, and diving is wonderful). Our trip is 1-8 October.

We're staying at the Hummingbird Resort, where our dive shop is. My husband keeps inquiring whether we should make a reservation or plans for a nice 2nd Anniversary dinner.

Personally, I was so happy with all of the food on the island, and the idea that we'd have a great (but simple) resort with great diving. For once, food wasn't on the forefront. Not exactly--we didn't have a bad meal from anywhere in St. Lucia (unlike here in Princeton). So I really didn't care.

But we will be taking at least 1 nice outfit--dress for me, khakis and jacket for him.

One thought was Jalousie, as it's part of a UNESCO site. A friend of a friend's mother has a resort in Rodney Bay, but that is far, and through Castries, which is a traffic nightmare.

I guess what I'm asking--is there a place that is heads above everything and so worth the taxi for an anniversary dinner, or should we stay in town and simply enjoy what we know is damned good?

Thanks in advance

Love, love, love the food on St. Lucia!!!!
There are great places to eat in rodney bay and that area, we always stay at Windjammer, near Castries. FYI, taxi fares have risen since just last year, our taxi ride today from Windjammer to Vieux Fort to Hewanorra was $75US. (it was $85 when we arrived, different taxi guy). anyway, if you really want a fan-freaking-tastic meal in the Rodney Bay area, get a reservation at The Edge. Far and away the best food I've ever had. We wanted to go there this past week, but they were closed for vacation, opening again 10/1. it's pricey, but amazing.
we talked about going to Soufrier for dinner one night during our vacation, but the time/money investment just didn't seem worth it. Enjoy!
