First date help! "Deep" valley Encino/Reseda/Northridge? Tues. Sept. 15th.

EEK!

Tomorrow! Tuesday, Sept. 15th!!

First date, he's in Thousand Oaks I'm in L.A. proper. Midway point (taking into account that I'll be driving in somewhat worse traffic,) seems to be Encino area. We are meeting around 7PM, so it doesn't have to be a late night place.

Ideal: FUNKY/GOOFY, but with decent beer/cocktails. Seriously, like a lounge in a bowling alley, a bingo night at a Lions Club hall, something really weird would be perfect.

Barring that, a straight up bar or a restaurant with bar lounge area would be second choice. Obviously, a good place to talk without a loud band (unless it's a polka band.)

Does not have to be trendy (god forbid!) Just comfortable. A place where we could maybe sit for a while if the convo goes well.

I'm at a loss! I like the Stovepiper, but they have sports going all the time and that won't work. Have looked at Vino Wine Room in Encino, and it's a little "nicer" than I was hoping for, but the vibe might work.

I wish I had more time!

Rive Gauche in Sherman Oaks has a really nice bar and it's very quiet. No one will bother you there if you sit and talk. You could have dinner out on the patio afterward if you wanted to.

While not known for great food, Spazio in Sherman Oaks has a great vibe and live Jazz music to boot. You can sit on the patio if you want conversation undisturbed by the music (you can still hear it).

Thank you everyone! Don't laugh, but. . .um. . . we are going to meet in the lounge at Corbin Bowl! PERFECT! Am storing away the suggestions for another time, though!

While too late for your needs tonight, next time try Pineapple Hill Saloon in Sherman Oaks at the rear of the center where InNOutUrge is on Van Nuys Blvd.
Also, for a bit more expensive place, featuring steaks and seafood, try the Valley Inn on Sherman Oaks Avenue, just south of Ventura Blvd. and the Courtyard by Marriott hotel. Talk about retro, yet has decent and affordably-priced food.
          Full bar in both places.

The Sherman Room is just what you need(ed). So how did the date go? Did he call you back or email you?

I love The Sherman Room, and I did consider it!
Date went well, we ended up eating at Versailles. It was.. . okay, I love how they get that crispy skin on the chicken, but I made a huge mistake and ordered it with BBQ sauce and that was straight out of a jar.

Second date was at Henry's Hat, very fun place and excellent fish and chips!

Thanks for the update -- wow, Versailles for a first date! I always -- ALWAYS -- have to order the roast chicken there and that dish is, for lack of a better word, garlicky. You are a brave dater!

Glad the second date worked out, I've never been to Henry's Hat, gotta check it out some time.

As for the Sherman Room -- how 'bout them dinner salads? ;)

              Hi Carter,
What did you eat at Pineapple Hill Saloon? I had minestrone soup and a tuna sandwich and they were just plain bad. The soup tasted like it was out of a can. The bartender working there was really nice. I want to like this place. And I like the neighborhood bar atmosphere. Did I just order wrong?

Casa Vega in Studio City is kind of a scene. The food isn't great...but okay americanized mexican food. The bar uses a heavy hand with the drinks...and the lights are low so everybody looks better. Have fun.

For a good bar in that area try Laurel Tavern on Ventura near Laurel Cyn -- fun, casual bar with decent vibe - kinda an LA version of cheers...

I like Laurel Tavern but not sure if you get there at 7 how easy a table will be to get as its one of those places you order at the bar and hunt for a table. You may also want to try Henry's Hat just a bit further than Laurel Tavern. I cant think of anything in Encino that fits what you're looking for. You're better off venturing a bit more east to studio city area.
