Will be visiting Hofstra University for a collegiate sporting event on Wednesday and would like to get recommendations on any local restaurant favorites (nothing extremely fancy - italian, seafood, etc). As we will be returning to Pennsylvania the same evening we would prefer a recommendation very close to the Hofstra campus or that would be on our route back home (Southern Prkway / Belt Prkway would even consider Brooklyn close to the Pkway) - Thanks for your help!!!

  1. I've had only excellent meals at RS Jones...

    1. If you are looking for very good Italian food that Italians like try Don Peppes in Queens. Family style well-regarded Italian food. Only problem is that it is cash only. It is located right off the Belt Pakway at Lefferts Boulevard (vicinity of JKF airport) Take Lefferts Blvd north for two bocks, restaurant will be on your left. Although LI has many good to great restaurants, there are NO memorable restaurants in the immediate Hofstrra vicinity.

      1. You can post on Outer Boroughs for more Queens/Brooklyn suggestions.

Right near Hofstra I'll throw out Vincents in Carle Place. While it's totally cheesy, I still love a nice plate of calamari and scungilli with red sauce in 3 varying degrees!

While it's not right off the Belt, the allure of Difara is right there...

        1. I like Potter's Pub, which is about 1 mile east on Hempstead Tpk. They do an Octoberfest with good German food. Nice food at good prices.

From there you can jump on to the Meadowbrook Parkway southbound right to the Belt Parkway.

          1. I wouldn't call either Merrick or Carle Place "on the way". I don't know Don Peppes, but that is probably the most convenient for you.
For those who think there is nothing in the Hofstra area, there is a new Italian restaurant in East Meadow that is the sibling of the place we always get things from in Wiliston Park. Frantoni's recently opened on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow. The new location was done in the Mama Theresa's style. It is probably about a mile past where you would get back on the Meadowbrook south to go to Southern State/Belt.
