Speed's, Oasis

hiddenboston Sep 14, 2009 01:00 PM

It was a food truck kind of day for a couple of us, as we headed down to Roxbury this afternoon to try Speed's and Oasis. What more can be said about the hot dogs at Speed's - huge, juicy dogs with a sweet taste from the cider and brown sugar, and amazing sauces (BBQ, special sauce). Eating them on the loading dock of Boston Brisket next door, I felt a little like I was in a Sopranos episode (no shootings or golf clubs to the head, though).

Afterwards, we were somehow hungry enough to get more food at Oasis, another food cart around the corner. We ordered empanadas and fries; the empanadas were dry, though the beef was nicely seasoned, and the fries were pretty basic. I was eyeing the chicken fried cheeseburger on their menu, though, so perhaps I'll hit it again the next time I'm at Speed's.

I'm curious about the chicken fried hceeseburger. this spring i was making chicken fried burgers topped with pickles, chicken fried bacon & cream gravy. never tried it w/ cheese (and it also never got past the "this is decadent, but i wouldn't want it very often" stage)

There's something about Oasis that scares me. Actually you weren't far off in the Soprano's episode reference. A few of the businesses in Newmarket are "family" run.

I work in the neighborhood and it's shameful I haven't tried speeds.

I've never tried Oasis partly because it's so near Speed's (and I never want/need more food after a Speed's dog), plus it kind of creeps me out as well.

The people were actually very nice there. But the empanada really did a number on my stomach (or was it the Speed's dog?).

Probably a binary explosive device ...

Let's hope that the mixture of empanadas and hot dogs never gets into the hands of bad people, LOL.

That'd be one more thing TSA would be confiscating! :)

Anyone been to Oasis lately? We are having an office field trip to Speed's on Monday, and need a vegetarian option.

I can't remember the last time I've seen it open.

There's a place that serves Gator, would that work for you? ;)

Definitely for me. Not sure about my anti-carnivorous colleague (though they are nasty creatures).

I often see Oasis open on weekdays, but it tends to close around 3pm or so. Their phone is still connected.
