My husband loves fried chicken but really dislikes fried chicken and waffles. I would like to surprise him on our next Arizona roadtrip with fried chicken suggestions. What are your favorite Arizona fried chicken spots?

LoLo's is a "chicken and waffle" place but has lots of combinations on the menu that don't include waffles. Their chicken is awesome.

Noca, an excellent and very popular restaurant here (search the board and you'll find tons written about Noca), features fried chicken on one Sunday night per month. Although I've been to Noca many, many times.....I've never had the fried chicken but everyone raves about it. Reservations are essential when they have it. Call them up to find out when they're having it next.

Last night was Fried Chicken Sunday at Noca. We went early, and they were preparing for a very busy night -- reservations are a very good idea as EJS mentions. (We did notice a few walk ins being seated at the bar). The next one should be Oct 25, according to our server - maybe more of a 6 week schedule.

We were at Noca last night as well (been there on numerous occasions, but this was the first time we were able to get there for "fried chicken night").

It was pretty great. Huge portions, and everything was really great. I thought it was interesting that the food wasn't "doctored up". It was simple recipes done right. I plan on getting my thoughts on the meal together and posting a more complete review soon.

I did want to mention 2 things. There was bar space available the whole time we were there (arrived around 7:45), so if you want to go on the spur of the moment, they will likely be able to accommodate you.

Second (and more important) last night, while we were there, there were some local celebrities eating at the next table over. It was none other than the "LoLo's family" in to check out he chicken. They looked to be enjoying themselves quite a bit. I thought it was quite interesting that they were eating there (Elliott said that they were close friends).

This is in Tucson, doesn't get much better than this. Don't just stick with the chicken, everything is good especially the steak fingers.

Mrs. White's Golden Rule Cafe has good fried chicken. Its a soul food place known for its "golden rule" method of payment- you don't get a bill, you just go to the register and tell them what you had. Cash only, and no ATM on site, so come prepared.

Its downtown across the street from the sports arenas and the walls bear the signatures of the many many athletes who have eaten there.

My husband adored their fried pork chops, and my chicken was good as well. The cornbread was disappointing, but the sides were good, especially the sweet potatoes.

I enjoyed the backstory as well.

I 2nd LoLo's chicken - get it w/o the waffles. That's what SO did and we both devoured the chicken. SO got grits and country fries w/ gravy. Their mac and cheese is also very, very good. I'll take you're hubby's waffle if he doesn't like them! They are devine!

I rarely finish a full plate of food when we go out to eat, but I did that time!

One more recommendation - Texaz Grill at 16th Street and Bethany Home (NEC). It's a casual restaurant for all things Texan and they do Chicken Fried Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak very, very well. You can get the usual sides that are good - mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. The chicken comes with the white gravy with pepper. I'm not a gravy person (as in I don't eat it) but everyone else raves about it and asks for more. I like their house salad and their mushrooms that come served in a coffee cup. I've had their pralines w/ ice cream, for dessert, that is very rich. So much so that I could not finish it. Actually, portions are large and I don't think I've ever finished a meal there. I've also really enjoyed their BBQ ribs but plan on getting messy. Like you'll want to ask the waitress for a screen to go around the table so you can just dig in and not have to worry about what's on your face messy. The Shiner Bock beer is really good and ice cold and they have a bar so I'm pretty sure they have a full service for drinks.

It's ALWAYS full even mid-week in the summer.

Texaz Griil is just W of the 51 freeway that runs through Phx.
