Nice wine at Grocery Outlet for $2 a bottle

I read with envy all the nice wines they find at Grocery Outlet in the Bay Area. The success rate for the Reno-area Grocery Outlets is so much lower. My friend Glenn found a nice riesling, though, for $2. It's worth passing along.

# 2006 Marlargo Riesling - Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley (9/13/2009)
This was almost too dry for me. But it's a nice wine. The nose was excellent with citrus and white flowers (no diesel). On the palate, some nice zip with flavors of limes and some spice. One flaw was a bitter quinine flavor, but it didn't overwhelm the wine. Okay finish. So few of the Grocery Outlet bargain wines are any good. This one turned out to be quite nice for $2. Imported by Soulful Selections of Denver.

  1. Thanks. We're in Reno right now and I'll pick some up. We like dry rieslings. BTW, next Chowdown you Reno kids have, we'd like to come from the lake if possible. My email is in my profile.

      I'll remember that.
My friend Glenn may have purchased all of it. It was at the Reno store for sure, maybe the Sparks store too.

I guess he did, I bought a bottle last week to try it out, liked it and went back for more today...all gone!
