Or La Closerie de Lilas on the sound end of bld Montparnasse.

I second La Closerie des Lilas. Fine for people watching is also the terrace of Le Dôme, Le Sélect and La Rotonde, all on Bldv. Montparnasse and usually all very busy. Or then, you have the terrace of La Coupole as well which I like a little less though.
