Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the New England

Wolfeboro, NH: Jo Greens vs Garwoods

We were in Wolfeboro today looking at a house. Afterward, we went looking for waterside dining on Lake Winnepesaukee.

Jo Greens has a 2nd floor deck overlooking the lake and town dock. To save my wife a trip up the stairs, I walked up the stairs to check out the menu. There was one party ahead of me at the host station. The host explained to them that there were no tables, but they could wait in the 3rd floor bar. Then, the party left for the bar and the host turned and walked away without even acknowledging me. I did the same.

Instead, we ended up at Garwoods, where the host and wait staff were very pleasant. Garwoods has a nice deck right on the water. I had fish tacos and my wife had fish and chips - both haddock. The fish was fresh and cooked properly. We both enjoyed our lunches.

    1. Good move, but....it's hard to believe that there were *no* tables available at Jo Green's. Locals generally avoid this place because of the food. Now that I think about it, Brewster Academy parents dropped off their kids this weekend. Apparently, there's a big crop of new boarding students this year.
