Anything good in West Broward?

Looking for something a little nicer for a birthday dinner on Wednesday night. There will be two children (3 & 9), so with that in mind, is there anything interesting in Davie or the surrounding area that's NOT a chain. When we're with the kids, they usually come east, but because it's a school night there are time constraints. I'm sure there are some neighborhood gems that our kids don't know about.

Vignettos in Plantation is pretty good for Italian. It's on University just north of 595. It's kind of hidden so you have to look for it. It's by the McDonalds and Kinkos. Pretty standard Italian fair with some interesting pasta dishes. Good service.
