Cattlemen’s Restaurant Free Lunch at Blood Bank of the Redwoods (Santa Rosa)
Yesterday I made an appointment online to return to the spot where I spent a dazed day on 9/11 eight years earlier waiting my turn to give blood to help the victims. The Blood Bank of the Redwoods has spiffed up since then with a flat screen TV and Le Corbousier-style leather chairs. It also has several food promotions to thank blood donors, such as Baskin-Robbins Pint for a Pint Mondays ( http://bbr.org/promotions.htm ).
For the Fridays and Saturdays in the month of September, Cattlemen’s Restaurant in Santa Rosa is donating lunch for blood donors. A blood bank staffer mans the food warmers, takes your order and brings it to your table. Yesterday I had a choice of grilled chicken or tri-tip, served on a French roll with or without carmelized onions, plus a green salad. I tried the chicken and found it too dry. The tri-tip with a moderately spicy barbecue sauce was quite tasty.

The blood bank also had a good choice of snacks and drinks. I had Ocean Spray cranberry juice, V8, and a bottle of water with my Rolled Gold pretzels and Mrs. May’s Trio tropical fruit and nut bar.

Just got an emailed reminder to donate from the Blood Bank of the Redwoods, so I thought I'd bump up this thread with the current promotion. La Gare restaurant will be serving a French dinner when you donate from Thursday, Sept. 2 from 4pm to 7pm.

I wish they would do something like that at the Red Cross in Pleasanton. While enjoy eating snacks I don't normally have (think nutter butter cookies!) lunch would be welcome. The last time I was there you could take a box of girl scout cookies to go which my kids enjoyed. I'm donating next week so maybe there will be a pleasant surprise in store.
Thank you for donating. I couldn't make it tonight but will be there this weekend to fulfill my annual 9/11 remembrance.
I hope that more local restaurants will step up to donate meals. It seems to work. For the drive last month in Sebastopol, Screamin' Mimi's gave away 232 pints of ice cream to 232 donors. http://bbr.org/special_thanks.htm
