Soup Dumplings for dinner?

nabwwlm Sep 12, 2009 01:14 PM

a couple of our group have a hankering for great soup dumplings (is it a different name when the soup is inside the dumpling? if so then I mean those!) but would also like some great other dishes too
So it would be dinner tonight and any recommended dishes to order would be appreciated!

Just looked at their menu and it sounds great. We stay with friends on the UWS but visit the UES also. Will check it out. Thanks.

Here is a link on Soup Dumplings

At Shanghainese restaurants that serve soup dumplings, I usually order Pork Chop with Salt and Pepper, Shredded Pork with Dry Bean Curd, or Stir-fried Shredded Pork with Bean Curd Skin and Preserved Cabbage. I also like Shanghai Lo Mein made with thick noodles. If you like casseroles and don't mind eating very large meatballs, you can try Lion's Head Casseroles (not my favorite), which is a Shanghainese specialty. I hope you will enjoy your dinner!

Soup dumplings are xiao long bao. I don't think they're technically a dim sum dish (I've gotten them once at Joe's Shanghai and they serve no dim sum) so don't know why they wouldn't be served at dinner. But I don't know. You could probably do a search here or look at Joe's online menu if they have one.
