Looking for Oatmeal beer (MSP)

I had a pint of Summit Oatmeal Stout the other night. I was at Ngon, and I ordered it to accompany the elk medallions in rhubarb-beet sauce - yum!

Delicious stuff. It was creamy, rich, and almost chocolatey. Like a good ice cream in a glass. (In fact, it was a bit too sweet for the elk, but I didn't mind - I saved most of it to drink afterwards as my dessert.)

Can I buy this lovely beer somewhere in town? If so, where? Summit's web site says that the Oatmeal Stout is "limited," but doesn't say where I can find it.

Thanks,
Anne

The Minneapolis Town Hall brewery at 7 corners makes an oatmeal stout and it is really good. Seriously. If you haven't tried it, do so. You can also get growlers to go, but I've always found it a bit costly, plus what do you do with half a gallon of beer?

I haven't had much success with stouts in bottle. Goose Island is ok but the only stouts I've had that were memorable were microbrews.

I've always enjoyed Lake Superior's Oatmeal Stout.

      Never had the Summit version.

I believe that the stout is found only on draft at local bars. Sounds like none of the liquor stores have bottles or cans.

You are correct. And the draft can be difficult to find - most places that might have it will only put up a keg once in a while.

Both Summit and Samuel Smith's are rated among the best oatmeal stouts. Also up there: Minneapolis Town Hall Brewing's "Black H20" - which they have pretty much all the time.

Oh, phooey! I had visions of me drinking Summit Oatmeal Stout on my porch every evening until it snows.

I'll just have to eat at Ngon more often (such a sacrifice!). I wonder if this beer is included in their MN Beers Happy Hour? I must research this...

Another local brew worth trying if you see it (and Ngon would be a good place to find it) is Flat Earth's "Black Helicopter" - a coffee-oatmeal stout. They have some other dark beers you might like, too (Cygnus X-1 porter, and many different fruit-infused versions thereof - orange, raspberry, coconut).

Head to Trader Joe's and get their house brand (made by Goose Island) and enjoy.

Blue Door Pub has it. FWIW, I don't think it is as good as Samuel Smith's.
