Pork belly in the Raleigh area? [moved from General South Archived board]

Anyone have a source for pork belly anywhere near Raleigh? I've tried supermarket meat counters, Nahunta at the Farmers Market, with no luck.

The A&C Supermarket on South Saunders Street across from Chappanoke Drive has it and much more, inexpensive duck and live fish, crabs and lobster, even live eels.

I get mine from Nahunta at the Farmer's Market. You need to call a couple of days ahead, and ask for fresh side meat with the skin on. You'll probably have to order 5 pounds or more, but their prices are very good. I usually order on Wednesday or so and pick up Saturday morning.

I know it's out of the way, but cliff's meat market has great, fresh pork belly, not the pre-packaged, frozen stuff.

I remember seeing it at Compare Foods Grocery.

Supermarket meat countres can be pretty clueless, though they should be able to order most anything. That being said, pork belly is really easy to find in most ethnic markets. Certainly Compare Foods which I guess is now International Foods or something at Atlantic and New Hops Church. Also at El Mandado at the 401/Capitol split. It's also available in the fridge on the left in the very back of the store at the Korean grocery at Atlantic and Spring Forest, near the DMV in the strip mall with the Goodberry's and Snoopy's. I've also bought it in the Mexican grocery off of Old Wake Forest Road if you're going N on Falls, take the jog onto Old Wake Forest Rd. hang a right after the Red Lobster (do not go in the Red Lobster), there are a couple of ethnic markets on the strip.

Hope This Helps! If you're not in N. Raleigh, post back and we'll get you the fatty goodness you seek! Also, check your local farmer's markets for folks that sell pork. They should have it or know who does...

Grand Asia has more pork belly than I have ever seen in one place.
