Hi all,

I am heading over to London for 3 nights and staying in the Shoreditch area and am looking for some recommendations on places to eat and drink. For food I would love to know of any good gastropubs or restaurants serving traditional or modern Britich Cuisine. And for drinks, anywhere that serves a great cocktail in a fun/eclectic but also upscale atmosphere.

Thank you in advance!

It's a good area foodwise to be in ...

I really like the Rivington Bar and Grill - excellent English food.

You're not far from the Eagle - the original gastro pub - and all the delights Exmouth market has to offer (icluding Moro, but that's not English).

Nearer is St John - not been there, but I've always wanted to, and by all accounts it's the best of British.

The Rivington is a good recommendation, maybe also head for the Albion (on Boundary St) for great British food - particularly good for breakfast or lunch (there are some reviews elsewhere on the board). If the weather is good they also have a bar on the rooftop - the bar downstairs is also good for cocktails. Lounge Lover just off Bethnal Green Road is a fantastic place for drinks/cocktails - a gorgeous room.

albion gets my vote. you should also head down to bagel bake at the top of brick lane and have a salt beef bagel with gherkin and mustard. st john bread and wine is close as an option.

also, go to mehmets embassy electrical supplies on compton street to try his olive oil. its a 10 minute walk from old street but well worth it.
