Plano--fine dining?

Visiting a friend and want to celebrate. Any great fine dining in the area? If not, semi-fine dining?

I think Jasper's is very hit and miss and way too expensive for what is on offer. Service at night can also be hazardous as they get so busy and the staff are overwhelmed. At Shops at Legacy Bob's is good for steak, not amazing but a nice atmosphere and you can get a drink at the bar first (their measures are very generous). There are definitely better steak places but if you don't want to travel then this is a good spot. For casual dining (be prepared to wait for a table) Fireside Pies is a must as their salads and pizzas are fabulous. Everywhere else at Legacy is better missed - the new Global seafood place is OK but nothing to write home about.

I think the best fine dining in Plano is at Mignon.

Are you more after the service and refined food or just great all around food (no french techniques) and atmosphere?

I love Jasper's at the shope at Legacy. Legacy and Bishop, food, service, and atmosphere are all great. Be prepared to pay for the good food, atmosphere, and service at Jasper's, though.

I have had mixed results with Jasper's. One meal was okay, and one meal was terrific. I would strongly recommend reservations, and then go to the bar a bit early for great people watching and a nice drink before dinner. I agree with Joanna, it is a bit pricey, but worth it. Another consideration is Loft 610. It has been a year or longer since I went, but we had a great meal. The service was top notch, the menu was wide, and my dining companion enjoyed a perfectly grilled buffalo tenderloin. The sides were very nice. What they did tell us is that they were trying to encourage more of a bar scene later in the evening. Not sure if that has happened, but at least a consideration if you are making a late reservation. One place to stay away from IMO is Silver Fox. Bad service, food, and management in my two experiences at that location.

It's unfortunate that you had a bad experience at Silver Fox. I eat there several times a month and the service and food are exceptional. The new kobe sliders are to die for. Make sure you order them rare or medium rare.
