Does anyone have a good (not crazy expensive) suggestion for lunch downtown in the above mentioned area? Maybe with a good soup or something like that?

In addition to the above, Café Romy in the basement of Ogilvy's.

Sakura Garden (Japanese) just down Mountain should have some good lunch specials.

Have not tried it yet but there's a casual restaurant opened this summer at the corner of de la Montagne ( Mountain) and de Maisonneuve, south west side.
A bit cheaper than Holt's Cafe would be the café in the basement of Ogilvy's.

It's called "W Cafe" or something like that - underneath Club Wanda's. However, the food does look okay, although I haven't tried it myself yet.

Right at Mountain and Sherbrooke there's the Holt's Cafe. Not cheap though (but not crazy expensive either). They have salads, and open-faced sandwiches (on Poilane bread), and usually at least one soup. A few blocks over there's Nocochi (they definitely have good soups). There's another place in the Passage du Musee just west on Sherbrooke, whose name escapes me at the moment. M:Brgr is just east on Drummond. Or Ariel, but that might be a bit heavier of a meal.
