70th birthday dinner for 10?
My Mother in law is coming to NYC to celebrate her 70th birthday. All 5 of her sons (and their wives) are flying in from different parts of the country to surprise her. We need to find the restaurant... and we don' t have much time! This is for the last weekend in Sept.
Some of her favorite restaurants are JoJo, Le Cote Basque, Le Grenouille - but aren't suitable for a large dinner.
Do any of you have any suggestions for an upscale, but not over the top, restaurant for this festive dinner?

I think the problem is getting a reservation for 10 on a Saturday night at most of the upscale restaurants at such relatively short notice. My suggestion would be the new SHO Shaun Hergatt. Although I haven't been yet, all the reports I have read about the cuisine and the ambiance have been extremely positive. $69 for the 3-course prix fixe sounds really reasonable to me.
