<content>We will be there three nights, We are a family of 4 including two kids ages 6 and 7 who are staying at the Hostal del Angel at Aquiles Serd&#225;n 675 Centro Hist&#243;rico. Price is not an issue. We eat anything and are hoping to eat authentic.

We will not have a car so walking is preferred method of transportation followed by taxi.

Also, how formal are restaurants? Can we wear shorts or are jeans or slacks or dresspants required?</content>

<content>Raboi, jeans or slacks will be fine. No shorts. Morelia is a very conservative city.

The absolutely best restaurant in the city is Restaurante LU, in the Hotel Best Western Casino. Don't be fooled by the Best Western placement, this restaurant is superb, both traditional Mexican and cocina del autor. By all means try the chef's tasting menu, it's a quick lesson in the foods of this region. If you'd care to meet the chef, let me know--she's a good friend. I'd recommend the restaurant to the skies even if she weren't.

I live in Morelia and would be happy to give you some other pointers. My email is patalarga@baddog.com. Let me know when you'll be in town and maybe we can get together. It's always fun to meet another Chowhound.

Link: http://www.mexicocooks.typepad.com On Saturday, September 12, the lead article on Mexico Cooks! will give you a good idea of what's going on at Restaurante LU. Don't miss it.

<content>Ask and you shall receive. We will be in Mexico City Dec 25-27 and then head out to Morelia the morning of the 28th and spend the day on a walking tour. We would love to meet up with for Cena at Restaurant LU. Your reviews sounds incredible. We will also be in town the 29th and 30th but we have full days with tours of Patzcuaro, the artisan villages, Urupan, and the Paracutin Volcano so those days we will be very tired from long days.
I hope you will be in town!! My email is craboi@yahoo.com.</content>

<content>Cena at Restaurante LU is possible, but not a good idea. Mexico eats its main meal of the day (comida) in the mid-afternoon, and that's when the 'A' Team cooks at restaurants. Many restaurants aren't even open for cena, unless the restaurant is specifically a cenadur&#237;a (supper place).

I'll email you privately, but I'm hoping you'll be able to change your plans from cena to comida. Your dates here sound good for me. Please be sure to check your SPAM file for my email, since oftentimes new ones go there in Yahoo.

<content>Hornos de Ortiz bakery is a fun visit with the kids if you are in the area to see the figures that they have made out of dough.

<content>Agreed; at least 3 of us bloggers have covered Hornos de Los Ortiz at one time or another.

October is a great time to visit the bakery (opens at noon!) as they will have decorated the place with fantastic Day of the Dead bread art.

These photos show some of their Christmas bread art.

<content>Latest Itinerary. Tours will be happening during the day during comeda so have to grab food wherever the guide recommends in Urupan and Patzcuaro.

As for Cena, I have 3 nights with the following restaurants favored:
Restaurant LU &#8211; Maybe meat up with Cristina??? Hopefully
Fonda Marceva &#8211; Regional Food
La Azotea in Hotel Juaninos &#8211; Found a great review that made it sound great

Post Cena treat for the kids at
Nieves del Correo &#8211; Street vendor behind cathedral recommended by Frommer&#8217;s
Gazpachos La Cerrada &#8211; Street vendor behind cathedral recommended by Frommer&#8217;s Mercado de Dulces y Artesanias - Anyone know the hours???

El Horno Los Ortiz (matriz) sounds far from our hotel (Hostal del Angel at Aquiles Serd&#225;n 675 Centro Hist&#243;rico) but is open late until 11pm. We would need a taxi. Anyone know where the sucursal is on Calzada Madero 1196. Is it close enough to walk?

<content>As I have mentioned more than once, it is unwise to have *cena* at the restaurants you mention. The 'A' team is in the kitchen at LU only for comida. Fonda Marceva is open ONLY for breakfast and comida; they close at 6PM. The restaurant at Hotel Juaninos sounds great, but is very mediocre.

For Los Ortiz, you want the original--not the sucursal. Taxis in Morelia are extremely inexpensive. Blow the 30 pesos and enjoy the best.

There are many better ice cream and gazpacho places than the ones you have mentioned.

Most guidebooks list only the obvious. Most tour guides take you to only the obvious. You have very little time here and it would be a shame not to maximize your experience.

I'll email YOU.
