Signature Sweets in the Chicago Area?
I'm headed to Chicago and have been wondering if there are any signature sweets or baked goods in the area that must not be missed. It seems like I can think of several signature savory dishes which are strongly associated with Chicago, but I can't seem to think of any sweets! Any advice on sweet regional specialties would be appreciated.
Hi Cakespy-
Can't say I have an answer for you, but just wanted to let you know I hope to see you at the Renegade Fair! We're coming to Chicago for the U2 concert & I'm trying to talk my hubby into going to the fair. I've bought from you before & hope to see your work in person. Cuppie is the best!

That is so cool! Maybe we can both discover some Chicago specialties. I do hear that there is a "Queen Elizabeth Cake" that the Deerfield's Bakery specializes in--something they dreamed up in the 1950's in celebration of the Queen's visit to Chicago.

I kinda forgot about this thread. Thought about it for a while, trying to come up with something. Um, Eli's cheesecake? The factory is on the NW side. It has a retail outlet attached
Swedish Bakery up in Andersonville is kind of an institution.
There's a hotel somewhere with a chocolate buffet.
I dare you to get an apple fritter at Old Fashioned Donuts and not be wowed.
I'm really still drawing a blank though.

I too will be in town for U2, The Renegade Fair, and the smART show - what about Sather's Cinnamon Rolls?
I'd also put Bongo Room's pancakes on the list.
