I came across this article about an upcoming first annual Laotian banquet (September 12, 2009 @ 6 PM) by the Center for Lao Studies:

http://blogs.sfweekly.com/foodie/2009...

They haven't finalized the menu, but here's what they've listed so far:

Lemongrass-marinated grilled chicken
Naem khao: crispy rice lettuce wraps
Mok pa: steamed fish with dill wrapped in banana leaves
Laab salad with chicken and herbs; also known as Larb / Laap / Larp
Tam mak huung: shredded green papaya salad
Khoua mii: pan-fried noodles
Sai oua: Lao-style sausage
Sticky rice: Lao-style steamed rice

I believe it's $25/person to attend this banquet.

Thanks for the pointer. Do you know who's cooking? I didn't see any mention of chefs or caterers on the flyer.

Sorry, but I have no idea who's cooking. And oh, one of the blog comments indicated that they're going to have 25 cases of Beerlao at the banquet...if you haven't tried Beerlao, it's a yummy beer that goes well with traditional Lao dishes.
