I can't believe I am just posting about this wonderful restaurant. Located off the beaten track in Ventucopa on Hwy 33, it is run by Larry Hogan & his wife Karina. Larry is a supreme winemaker (started Barnwood, but sold it), who makes incredible red wines under the Sagebrush Annie's & Stone Pine labels. They have wine tasting in the rustic (think old west saloon) tasting room on weekends, but also serve dinner Fri-Sun (reservations usually necessary). Their specialty is steak, which Larry cooks on a wood fire, but they also have salmon. Karina could be a 'soup Nazi'- her soups are that great. She prepares those, as well as the salad dressings, sides & desserts. One night it was roasted red pepper, another time a cream of potato/cauliflower, & recently, French onion.

We live in the Frazier Park area, & the last time we had dinner there, we drove from Pine Mountain Club down the Quetal Canyon dirt road (fun, but not a road to take in winter or rain). They have a web site: sagebrushannies.com. This is a very special place for people who love steak & wine, & can appreciate the unique location & setting. Larry & Karina are wonderful, fascinating people too! Worth the drive, or you can rent a place in Pine Mountain, camp at Scheideck, etc. if drive is too far for you.
