A Good Slice of Pie in San Diego?
Last night I forced my husband to drive around town looking for a good piece of pie--chocolate cream, cherry, something creative....couldn't find suggestions on Chowhound, except for Julian. Stopped at Extraordinary Desserts, Eclipse, Heavan Sent, nothing there. Knew Elizabethan was closed at night or I would have driven to North County. Any ideas? Anything on any local restaurant menus where you can just go order a slice for dessert??? Please help.

I've also been searching for good pie in San Diego, especially after I saw the movie Waitress. The most decent non-chain pie I've found is the strawberry pie at George's Wonderful World of Cakes in National City. I usually end up at Marie Callender's though (the shame, I know). You're probably better off browsing a farmer's market. There's usually some homemade pie available.

City Deli in Hillcrest has a big selection of pies. They all look delicious, but I've honestly never had a slice (always too full after my meal!). Was just there today, and they had berry, fruit, and cream pies. BIG selection of cakes and other baked goodies too! http://www.citydeli.com/

I've got the place for you, but it's drive. The little ramshackle joint at Cuyamaca Lake makes fresh fruit pies. They also import sausages from Eastern Europe.

re: Dagney
I'm not much of a dessert chick but I do love a good slice of pie and concur, the ramshackle joint at Cuyamaca lake does a mean slice of berry pie..
Leaving for Kauai next week for the big birthday blowout and one of the main things that I am so jonesing for is the lilikoi pie at Hamura saimin's..
It kicks ass like no pie in the world...passion fruit thing of beauty..
That's what needs to be brought to the greater SD area..it would be a cash cow.
