Hi there Chow-people!

I'm looking for a recipe from back in the 60s my Mom used to make. It was a VERY simple cherry-cheesecake recipe, a no-bake one with just a few ingredients, primarily cream cheese, lemon juice, vanilla and icing sugar. Can't remember if there was anything else. It was the first cheesecake I ever had, one of Philly Cream Cheese's first no-bake recipes, and Cool Whip topping wasn't even invented then. And I know there was no whipping cream in it. Can anybody out there help me out??

if there was no cream or whipped topping, my guess is that it was a recipe that calls for either sweetened condensed milk or gelatin. is that possible?

Years ago, I made these little cheese cake cookies, Merry Cherry Cheese cake cookies, that weren't baked. The filling was probably this; Cream Cheese, sugar, orange peel, orange juice, (or lemon) light cream and the fruit you added was in this case chopped marachino cherries and topped with the cherries sliced in half. The crust was vanilla wafers. Sound close?

ok, i've been obsessing about this one today while running errands - i really think that even if the recipe didn't contain Cool Whip, there must have been some heavy whipping cream in there. most of the pre-Cool Whip recipes for no-bake cherry cheesecake filling contained cream cheese, sugar (in this case powdered), heavy whipping cream, cherry pie filling, vanilla extract and lemon juice.

I think it had Dream Whip. I'm not sure if that still exists. It was a powder (packets in a box) that you beat into milk to make a stable whipped topping. God knows what was in it.

I work summers as a registered Maine ocean kayak guide. I take people on 3 day kayak trips on The Maine Island Trail. Although I never cook it at home, please get ready, I'll cook for dessert, Jello no bake cheese cake, BUT I substitute yogurt for sour cream and a fresh strawberry or blueberry topping. After a day of paddling, eating it on a beautiful isolated island at sunset, tastes purtty damn good.
