Vegetarian dinner for ten this Saturday?

My office mate needs to take nine out of towners to dinner on Saturday. Some are vegeatarian and do not eat seafood. And for some, this is their first visit to California from India.

I suggested Green's, which my friend nixed as too expensive. I'm at a loss, so I am turning to Chowhounds for help.

Dinner could be in SF or in San Mateo or Santa Clara County.

Thanks for any suggestions.

If they are coming from India, they may not want to eat the California version of Indian food. What about a different type of cuisine? Chinese, Italian, Cal-Ital w/ thin crust pizzas, Vietnamese, Thai, etc could all be done vegetarian and cheaper than Greens.

Pauline's might be a good choice. They're great for groups and very vegetarian-friendly.

Angkor Borei (Cambodian) is not vegetarian, but it's very vegetarian-friendly and one of the nicer inexpensive restaurants in SF.

      Same goes for Helmand.

I second Amber, although expensive. Athidi in Sunnyvale for S.Indian w/ non veg. available (depends where the group is from). For non-Indian, Helmand Palace in SF (board rec); Dish Dash (need res.) & Kabul in Sunnyvale (need reservations)

Just remembered...Turmeric in Sunnyvale has buffet ($12.95) as well as a la carte dinner on weekends. Call ahead.

Amber India has great vegetarian and non vegetarian food, and they can go to either the SF or Mountain View location. It's not as inexpensive as most Indian food, but is nice and high quality.

Here's a few vegan houses. It's a small chain and there have been some good reports.
Vegetarian House and Loving Hut from Supreme Master Ching Hai.
