If you're looking for less "hole in the wall" and something a bit cleaner, check out Taqueria La Hacienda #3 right down CR-5 from Tacolmeca.

If you're looking for Americanized-Mexican, check out El Parian in Eagan.

And glad you think I have great taste ;-)

Supermercado Olmeca, attached to Tacolmeca, also has a nice bakery and some real treasures (like chiccharon, carnitas, tamales). And don't forget to stop in the bakery next door to Taqueria La Hacienda.

Not a restaurant per se, but in the older strip mall in Burnsville's "Heart of the City" there's also the Hidalgo Market. While not as cool as Olmeca, it's a neat little Mexican market. They have tamales on the weekends that aren't bad and sometimes other foods ready-to-eat. Their taqueria (Taqueria Hidalgo) in the same strip, a couple doors down, isn't as good as TLH or Olmeca.

I also recommend a visit to Taco Loco in Shakopee. They now have two locations, one on each end of "downtown". The one on the west side is in an old DQ and has no indoor seating. The new one is next to Dangerfield's. Great tacos and tortas, i think they do steak and carnitas especially well.

I discovered Tacolmeca and TLH #3 thanks to Bill and MSPD at LazyLightning.

There are a ton of other hole in the wall Mexican joints in Shakopee. I tried El Korita (next to Taco Loco in the old DQ) for their lunch buffet and it was only OK. I should know better than to do a buffet in a restaurant with only one other customer inside. I'll go back again and order off the menu, I have heard they do great seafood.
