Does anyone know of an African restaurant here that is not specifically Ethiopian? I'm looking for West African food, Ghanaian or otherwise. Thanks!

I've never been there, but have driven by a place in Irving called African Village Restaurant.

You can also add UGO Restaurant

I would call them just to make sure they are still open.

I am not sure if Motherland Cuisine is still open in Irving at Rock Island and Story Rd. It was the former Magic Dragon costume shop. I will verify next time I am in Irving.

All the other places I know of are Ethopian or Swahili Coast.

I think there is a place around Jupiter and NW Hwy (NE Dallas area). I will get my information at home and verify. The guys at the KEM-JEL African market in Lewisville would know some places. It is on the SEC of Southwest Pkwy and Business 121.

Across the street from the African Village Restaurant in Irving is a shop with African foodstuffs:

        Vai Town African Market
        3022 N Belt Line Rd, Irving - (972) 252-9010

Oti restaurant near that Sam's on park lane is good. It is Nigerian food. You'd never know it was there. I've been twice... had fish pepper soup, plantains, a thick fish stew, pounded yam fufu, and abacha (a stockfish dish). Quite an interesting (and delicious) experience. Nigerian T.V. was blasting in the background.

I've been to African Village--they specialize in many areas of African cuisine, but are from Cameroon. I've only been there once but it was quite good.

My favorite restaurant, Kijiweni Swahili (tanzinian) closed. They had the best whole fish in palm oil sauce. =(

I wish this cuisine had a better following among Dallas foodies. =P It's one of the best foods IMO.

I know the topic reads "Dallas", but as a result of being in a different thread, I came across this menu item:

Oxtail - Cooked in our spicy African red sauce and served with coconut rice and greens 15.99

at Chef Point Cafe in Watauga.

Add Murphy's 2 to the list. All your Nigerian staples--fufu, egusi soup, Jollof rice, fish pepper soup, goat, stockfish, fish stew, etc etc... probably the best Nigerian I've had so far, but it looks like a 1980s strip club in there.
