How To Stop Following a Thread

Is there a setting to stop following a thread that I have posted in? I have lost interest in the direction of a specific thread and now I don't want to be notified that there are new posts in that thread.

TIA.

If it's a CHOW thread that you're getting email notifications about, then you can go to the 'notifications' tab of mychow and remove it from your list.

If it's a Chowhound thread that's simply appearing on your mychow 'all posts' list, then no, that's just automatically generated based on what you've posted to.

Hmm. OoooK. That's annoying. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I agree, it's annoying. On the plus side, I find it's made me much more reluctant to jump into dopey threads because I don't want to keep seeing them :-)

That's true, but it's really annoying when the thread starts out good and I get into the discussion and then it all goes south and I lose interest, for any number of reasons.

On your profile page, above the list of posts, if you adjust the chronological order to date of YOUR last post, the ones that you haven't been following recently will drop down after the ones you posted to recently.

Thanks for the tip, greygarious. Looks like that will work.

That solution comes with its own problems. Threads you posted to months or years ago which you are, in fact, still interested in will then not pop to the top of the listing and you will probably miss them.

Not being able to flush a thread with an "ignore this topic" button, no matter how you have them sorted, is a significant annoyance.

One other thing that might work could be to hit the "report" link under your
post(s) in the dopey thread and ask the moderators to delete your post. The system doesn't notify you of additions to threads that you've been deleted out of. And if enough people did this, the moderators might have better luck than we've had convincing the CH developers that it's an issue worth fixing ...

Please don't report your posts for deletion simply because you're tired of seeing them in your MYCHOW list. We're a small crew here and we can barely keep up with the shills, trolls and other problems around here. In addition, unless it's absolutely necessary, we don't remove posts with responses, as the responses wouldn't make sense out of context.

                    CH Team,
I agree with you that the "report" technique is not a good thing, but it's because the board does not have a way to accomplish "ignore this thread" that users have to be "creative" in developing their own solutions. Highly suggest that you put this on the wishlist for features.

We're the (mostly) volunteer moderator team. We don't have any control over what the engineers implement. This "creative solution" is just going to cause more work for us without solving the problem. Please don't do it.

I have no intention of using that solution, but I must say that even as "volunteer moderators" you should have some input to the web geeks or there should be a better facility for Chow Hounders to give feedback or is this another example of how CBS Interactive Media treats it's constituency? I really don't want to get into a rant, here. If there is another area where I can post suggestions/criticisms of the technical aspects of the site in general, please point me there.

                        Never mind, I found it.

This is really the best place to post that kind of feedback, so everyone can discuss it.

With all due respect, Jacquilynne, it really doesn't take much discussion.

I suggest that there be a way for posters to stop following a thread. Whatever marker is used indicate that a user has posted to a thread should be reversed on demand.

There are a few threads in the Food Media and News board that have to do with a particular episode the are weeks old and still show up on "My Posts" even though I have not posted for weeks and have lost interest in those discussions.
