Oyster Shucking Class
I was just informed that Mercato del Mare does an Oyster shucking class/demo every sat at 1pm. This is one of things I have wanted to learn to do well so I will have to check it out.

Where is Mercato del Mare?

It's on Salem Street in the North End. And, in Chowhound terms I'll say it's on the same block and same side as Neptune Oyster and Antico Forno.

Legal is having a bunch of oyster dinners, tutorials and I think there's one shucking class.

If you've got a proper knife it takes about 30 seconds to learn. The main thing is learning how to hold the oyster in a towel so you don't stab yourself.
It also requires some (not high, but some) degree of wrist strength - my tiny-wristed wife can't do it at all.

I agree, learning take about 30 seconds, it's the practice that like anything takes more time. Me, female, getting better each time I grab a dozen.

Anybody can learn to shuck oysters big, small, strong, or not so strong. It's just getting used to wiggling the oyster knife in their correctly. Get three dozen oysters and give it a whirl, you'll figure it out. This is not rocket science.
The fact that they have a "Class" for this is kinda hysterical. Like having a class to teach you how to brush your teeth.
