Alternate Fillings for "Cinnamon Rolls/Buns" ?

Hi,

Can anyone suggest some alternate fillings for a traditional cinnamon buns/rolls. I'm tired of the same old cinnamon flavor and would love to hear your ideas for flavors and recipes.

Maybe chocolate or fruit??

Thanks so much...

-add some cooked finely diced cinnamon apples
-add some carob chips to the mix
-roll out dough, spread with reduced raspberry jam, then sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs, white chocolate chards, and sliced almonds if desired; roll, cut, and bake
-do like a baklava filling with honey and chopped walnuts

so many good ideas here! I would just like to add that pioneer woman puts coffee in her icing, and it is delicious!! Wouldn't work with some of my faves on this thread : farmers cheese and apricots!! coconut and pineapple! yum! but is still a good idea for mixing it up.

              Red Bean Paste Filling
              2/3 cup Dried Adzuki beans
              Water for boiling
1/2 cup sugar, brown sugar, or honey

2 tablespoons neutral flavor oil for frying

              Optional Red Bean Paste Ingredients

              crushed:
              walnut
              pecan
              gingko
              almond
              peanut

              mashed:
              lemon
              orange
              pineapple
              Raisins
              Cinnamon to taste

Rinse the beans in cold water, discarding broken/discolored/shriveled beans.
Place in a bowl or pot, cover with water, and soak over night.
Drain and rinse in cold water.
Place in a pot, cover with water, add a dash or two of salt, and bring to a rapid boil.
Reduce heat and simmer until soft, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Remove from heat, drain, and cool.
Use a mortar and pestle, food processor, or blender and mash/blend until smooth.
Transfer to a mixing bowl and stir in the sugar (and any optional ingredient).
Heat a wok or stir fry pan.
Add oil and bean paste and fry on medium low heat for 2 to 4 minutes (until dry), pressing and turning occasionally with spoon or spatula.
              Remove from heat and cool.
Add in any of the optional ingredients.
Transfer to an air tight container and refrigerate until use.
The paste may be stored, refrigerated, for up to one week.
Use as needed in various recipes.

Maybe almond paste, like a bear claw.

Add some shaved or finely chopped dark chocolate to the almond paste and you'll really have something decadent.

Something like an Asian coconut or cocktail bun - or even the "pineapple" variant.

I'm thinking a caramel/pecan/coconut filling (a la German Chocolate Cake frosting) would work beautifully. A local breadshop in my hometown did really nice raspberry swirl rolls with their homemade jam, too.
