Better Vietnamese (MSP)?
I'm not an expert. Nor have I lived here for even four months. Nor am I Vietnamese. But I am asking for my fellow hounders as to the better Vietnamese places in Minneapolis.
I've been to Jasmine Deli and thought it not anything special--I've had countless better banh mi or vermicelli salads on Argyle Street in Chicago.
I've also been to Pho 79. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the pho, though the latter seemed to lack that intangible complexity that might have led me to return for pho for its wonderfulness. In short, it was nothing special as well.
What are the holes in the wall that you all like?
I'm wanting vibrancy in the dullest atmosphere possible. Like, when I go into the building in which Evergreen Taiwanese resides, on Nicollet, and I see all those men sitting in that weird, nearly empty cafe/bar on the street level listening to indecipherable music in odd neon light? That's great. It makes me smile and want to be alive and eat.
Okay. Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Parker
I know there's plenty already on this topic around here, but I'll recommend Pho Tau Bay on Nicollet, as well as Quang (also on Nicollet) on weekends for the sea bass soup. Ngon in St. Paul is classier, with great Pho.

I would amplify that Ngon is qualitatively different from (all, as far as I know) other Vietnamese places in town for their commitment to local sourcing (meat, beer, wine, etc.).
Saigon is one of our favorites... great pho and wonderful limeade.

Even though I live in Chicago and love going to Argyle, I have a craving for Quang.
