What Do You Order at Hugo's?

WestsideLisa Sep 1, 2009 09:14 PM

Going for brunch. I went once, and ordered some sandwich that I wasn't thrilled with. Did I just order wrong, or is it not a good place to eat? What are your favorites there?

i've eaten at hugos about 6 times.
each time the food was bland and not memorable.
not rotten, not awful, just nothing with nothing.
    i can't even remember what i ate there. . .

I have 1 or 2 things: the pasta papa which is homemade tossed with scramble egg, bacon, chicken sausage topped with pecorino. It's really hearty and heavy and delicious.

For a lighter option, I get the quinoa and red beet salad, pecan, dried cherries with a tasty vinaigrette. I think it come garnished with a blue cheese, or maybe feta.

Oh, and their black bean cakes are really yummy.

Generally their egg-based dishes are fairly good, yet nothing else really rings my chimes, as in trying to lure me back in.
It used to be really good before the Weho unit was remodeled, the Valley location did not exist, nor did the ever-expanding Hugo's Tacos chain.
Now, too many different places to focus on what is wrong with the original.

Last time I went had the Very Green Protein Burrito (a special) and it was fantastic. My regular breakfast item has to be the Desayuno Fuerte. Agree with the reco for the Quinoa & Beet Salad and would also add the Power of Green Salad for something super healthy.

Big fan of their tamales and eggs.

Chilaquiles, Chipotle Scramble is divine, Pumpkin Pancakes. Can't go wrong with any of these.

2nd that. I also had peach pancakes there recently (they were a special) which were excellent. The peaches were in the pancakes, not on top, accompanied by a peach agave spiced syrup and cashews. yum.

Thanks, everyone. Someone also mentioned the oatmeal frittata in another post. Any opinions on that?
