Best place for Monday Night Football this year?
Hey chowhounders -
My friends and I are going to be meeting up every Monday night for football. Does anyone have any reccomendations for places to watch the game? I was thinking ESPN zone, but I imagine they'll be super busy and super expensive.
In my old town there used to be bars that had specials during football like .25 wings and $1 sliders along with drink specials (i.e. super cheap bar food), and that's really what I'm looking for. Some places even went as far as to have a pool for giveaways at the end of each quarter (this is not a requirement).
In any case - any suggestions you have are appreciated!
(BTW - I'm a Pats fan, and I know they are not well liked in NYC)

Finally going to hit Hill Country tonight for the all-you-can-eat special.
Looking for a sports bar in the area to watch Monday Night Football after we eat. Any suggestions near Hill Country???

there's a place on... hmm.... maybe 26th between 6th and 7th ave called Ainsworth or Ainsworthy or something like that. It's new. It's huge. It's got 1000 flat screens (seriously).
It's not my scene, but it's definitely a mega-sports bar. They have standard, unremarkable sports bar cuisine.

I was at the Ainsworth yesterday for the games> it is indeed new, huge, and a mega-sports bar. The crowd was more akin to a club in the meatpacking district than the typical sports bar - but we had seats so it was fine on that level. I would recommend it since it is a) super super close to Hill Country - same block just a little bit west, and b) has an insane amount of TV's.
Enjoy Hill Country!

I walk past that place all the time and have noted the insane amount of TV's. Have you had the food?? If so, do you mind telling us about it? I'm always on the hunt for a great burger. Thanks.

Yes, we did have some food - listed by general order of consumption:
Turkey club - served on a baguette that was so toasted that it was too hard to bite through really, wouldnt recommend. It was ok. .
Waffle fries - nice and crispy, well seasoned, very good.
Reuben - very, very excellent. The meat had a smoky taste to it, which was a welcome touch, sauce/kraut was tasty, and the bread was great.
Pizza - it was fine for bar pizza, nothing more.
Mini Hot Dogs - extremely hard to mess up, and thankfully they did not. yum.
Empanada - at $6.50 for one, it better be damn good. This wasnt worth the money, but it was tasty.

I split a burger with DGF. It was good but I barely remember it. I just wasn't really paying attention to it, if that makes any sense. I certainly wasn't expecting to discuss it on CH at any point. :-)
We also got an order of wings which I did not care for. I didn't like the sauce and they were over cooked. The buffalo sauce was spicy enough, but it was oddly sweet too and just had a "hole in the middle" of it. It was spicy and sweet, yet oddly lacked flavor.
I don't mean to knock the place. The food isn't the focus here. It's adequate but the reason people will go there is to watch sports and drink.

If you're downtown I highly suggest the blue seats on ludlow street. lots of screens and the only sports bar in the city with food worth speaking of. I think they're doing .25 cent wings for monday night football this year.

re: malpais
second on blue seats... their sesame glazed wings are awesome and it's a pretty good downtown sports crowd in there. also, reservoir on university bet 10th and 11th is a solid MNF football watching bar that also has good bar food. nothing fancy but, it's cheap and their burgers, reuben, waffle fries and wings are all quite good. in the west village, bleecker heights tavern above five guys is a good spot for games too.

What neighborhood/ area do you want to be in?
There are lots of options, but it would help knowing where you want to be to narrow them down.›2 Replies-

re: aclbosox
the Brother Jimmy's on the UES could be good for you. Also, I really like the UES bar "the Back Page" when I went for football once (3rd ave bet'n 83 and 84).
Also, I would do a scan of the Pats' fan message boards to see if they have insight as to what the NYC bars might be, if being around your fellow fans is a priority.

I'm not very knowledgeable about these matters, but how do you feel about being around Packers fans? I've watched games at Kettle of Fish, which was a lot of fun.
