Midtown/Hell's Kitchen outdoors?

LJW Sep 1, 2009 02:57 PM

Any suggestions for a place in Midtown West or Hell's Kitchen with a nice outdoor space or sidewalk seating, or at the very least nice big doors that open up to the street, to enjoy this glorious weather while drinking/dining in the concrete jungle? Thx.

After a taping of The Daily Show we went to Mangia E Bevi. They have perhaps eight outside tables. We shared a huge salad, and a very generous antipasti plate. They had half off bottles of wines on Tuesday, I believe.

A few weeks ago my aunt was in town to visit, and we ended up at HK Hell's Kitchen for dinner. I forget the exact corner it's on, but the entire side wall of the restaurant opens up to outdoor seating, so both those by the wall and those outside have a nice al fresco experience. (Although the view of the construction across the street isn't all that stunning.) I had been meaning to write a review of this place, but hadn't because while it was a very pleasant experience, there was nothing remarkable about it. That being said, I would not hesitate to recommend it, since I also can't come up with a negative comment. It fit our bill perfectly (not too pricey, "american" type fare that would appeal to a nonadventurous eater -- my aunt). My chicken was moist and flavorful, roasted vegetables underneath were fine, and the hummus platter to start was solid. Service was also good, and I particularly appreciated that the waiter did not seem to mind a bit that we sat talking for 3 hours. (And for that, he was rewarded with a particularly generous tip.) So yeah, all in all, this place could be a good choice depending on your needs.

          decisions, decisions...

just choose a few that sound appealing to you and see what your fellow Hounds have said about them in previous posts.
