Black Bear Diner in Monterey
This is a take off from a post in the San Francisco area regarding the demise of American breakfasts, particularly chicken fried steak. Someone mentioned the Black Bear Diner in Gilroy, and I noticed there is a Monterey area location on N. Freemont.
How are the breakfasts here? The chicken fried steak breakfast sounds good and I was wondering if anyone has tried it. Any other standouts on the menu? The two places I've tried previously in the area are Katy's in Carmel and First Awakenings in Pacific Grove, both of which I've enjoyed. Thanks in advance for your help.

Terrific corned beef hash, made on site daily. Huge servings.

We've been to the Black Bear Diner in Seaside a couple of times. Our impression...huge portions, bland food.
There are better breakfast places in the Monterey area. Fresh Awakenings has one of the better breakfasts. Old Monterey Cafe in downtown Monterey and The Breakfast Club in Seaside also have very good breakfasts.
